AN UNINTERRUPTED STRAIGHT LINE

The veil of winter
Was pulled over the Island
Disguises the crooked tooth bride

The tourists had flown:
We dislike the cold weather
let this mournful season subside

The shoreline fell back
From the neck to the nave
Exposes the belly of the beach

It lay naked, unclothed
Covered in stones
Shiny and clear, too frozen to reach
